HOW DID the towns in the Philippines get their names?
Because the Spaniards are saying one thing and the natives another. The former could never get their nga's and ing's right, and many of the latter keep interchanging their e's and i's. Or local historians and story-tellers have run out of original ideas and are copying each other.

So, when a roving band of Spaniards, came upon a village at the mount of the Obong Spring and they saw a woman washing clothes in the flowing waters, they asked her what the name of the village was. Dalakit, the woman said, referring to the huge balete standing nearby. The tree is known in the locality as dalakit, or dakit. And this was how Dalaguete got its name.

Under the Spaniards, the natives built the baluartes or watchtowers at Obong that protected the town from the marauding Moros. Built in the late 1700s and early 1800s, there were three watchtowers referred to as Bantay Moros that formed part of a series of defensive fortifications erected by Fray Julian Bermejo, the Augustinian priest who was also called "Padre Kapitan". The baluartes were strategically placed along the southern flank of the island, from Carcar to the north Santander to the south.

One baluarte, rehabilitated in the 1970s and given a pavilion-like addition, is now a town landmark, referred to as the kiosko. Another landmark is Dakung Bato in Barangay Coro. This stone promontory served as the entrance to Dalaguete in the old days.

The town's beginnings started as an extension of the Carcar Parish in 1690. It became an independent parish in 1711, but it was not until 1802 that a more permanent building was started. Just like the church in Oslob, the church dedicated to San Guillermo de Aquitania is earthquake-baroque architecture characterize by flying buttresses on both side with a facade divided into three levels by cornice stone moldings. The pediment, adorned with finials, has a central niche and a small circular window that served as a lookout.

These days, visitors go to Dalaguete for 2 things, to bathe in the clear waters of Obong Spring, or to go up the highlands of Mantalongon, a barangay located a few hours drive away. Considered the vegetable basket of Cebu. Mantalongon's fairly cool climate is ideal for growing lettuce, tomatoes, cabbages, carrots as well as herbs and other nursery plants. Mantalongon is also a well-hidden secret as a favorite weekend destination for most city folks nowadays who find the lure of misty mornings and cold weather a refuge from the heat of the city.

A Brief History

Decades ago, several Dalaguetnons immigrated to manila in search of a better life and a bright future,bringing not only their belonging but also their love for the land of their birth and deep devotion to San Guillermo, the Patron Saint of Dalaguete,Cebu.

Hard work and preseverance led to the realization of their cherished dreams of economic and educational endeavors.But their enjoyment of such prosperity did not last long enough because of the entanglement of the Philippines in World War II.On December 10, 1941 ,Japan invaded the Philippines.On January 29, 1942,the invaders entered Manila.The people ran away.Many evacuated to the provinces.Some went home to their places of origin.The rest decided to stay regardless of consequences.

From 1942 to 1945, the Filipinos suffered from the oppressive acts and atrocious abuses.The worst, however, happened in Manila, during the first three weeks of February 1945, when the city was liberated. The Dalaguetnon and foreigners suffered from sickness, hunger, thirst, loneliness and uncertainty of their future.

At the height of their crisis they pleaded to the Almighty for His mercy and to San Guillermo for intercession. Their prayers were heard.

Sometime in August 1945, when they learned that the war finally over,they met, formed the KAPUNUNGANG DALAGUETNON, elected the late Candido Alvarado president or pangulo and planned to hold a fiesta in order to thank God and San Guillermo for their survival.

One day in February 1946, the first fiesta after World War II was celebrated in Pinaglabanan, San Juan, Rizal. This became a tradition. Since then, the truly devoted Dalaguetnons have never failed to honor San Guillermo in a special way, All the fiestas from 1946 up to fiesta on February 26, 1989 were sponsored by the KAPUNUNGANG DALAGUETNON.

During the 1989 fiesta sponsored by the Ambrad clan, an election was held for 1990 president/hermano. it was the birth of San Guillermo DE DALAGUETE, CEBU ASSOCIATION, INC which was organized and registered in November 7, 1989. The first fiesta under it was held on February 25, 1990.It continued to sponsor Fiestas, in spite of the existence of another group devoted to San Guillermo.

The majority wanted to provide the image with a chapel, as an appropriate abode. Fund raising activities were conducted during fiestas to accumulate funds for the purpose.

Just before the 2006 fiesta an alleged chairman of the Board of SAGUIDACEA told her friend , also a member, that she would "lie low, stay frozen," meaning that she would not participate in the annual celebration, so the fiesta was held on February 26, 2006 according to schedule even without her and three others, The affair was well attended, very lively. The Caritan Clan served plenty of food. We did not expect trouble.

A few months after the fiesta, a meeting was called, an election was conducted replacing those who were elected on March 7, 2004, due to their failure to elect a new set of officers on the General Assembly, day of the fiesta. The affected and the members did not complain. They just kept quiet.

I the remembered what the late Placido B. Bilar, a survivor who had participated in celebration of the first fiesta after the war, and one of the founders of SAGUIDACEA. He said, " My religiosity and deep devotion to San Guillermo is my legacy to my family. I want them to keep this legacy sacred. I kept these words ringing in my ears.

When I smelled an odor of break up I recalled my promise I had made on July 09, 2006, that beginning 2007. I would offer a Eucharistic Celebration every fourth Sunday of every year at the gymnasium of the Department of Agrarian Reform If available , but if not, then in any Catholic Church, But no food. I promised to fulfill such promise even if only my family and I would attend.Then a very good opportunity came on January 14,2007 when sex individuals expressed their full support to me. We agreed at once to hold a fiesta on February 25, 2007. More than 600 attended the affair as reflected in the registry book.. Some of them were Col.& Mrs Jose Mier. He told us that Mrs. Dolores Castillo Bejec would sponsor the february 2008 fiesta. Mrs. Castillo is the window of the late Atty. Conseco D. Bejec who sponsored the fiesta on February 18, 1967. She was in the Philippines in 2005 to visit her familly and had the occasion to attend our fiesta. She was happy to observe that the Dalaguetnons are very devoted to San Guillermo.

With the responsibility we are facing and for legality with new personality we made a name to our group: DALAGUETNON DEVOTEES OF SAN GUILLERMO DE AQUITANIA IN METRO MANILA INC.

The antiquity of Dalaguete can be gleaned from its parish church. Built in 1771, the year (the year the town and parish were founded), it was a masterpiece of Fr. Juan Chacel. J.T. Newman describes the church:

Dalaguete with San Guillermo as its patron is pseudo-baroque. The altar is shaped like a shell and it is one church with false galleries constructed at the upper sites of the altar. It is said that there used to be a small statue of San Guillermo with diamonds for eyes. But this has been stolen or lost

The town of Dalaguete used to be only a barrio of Carcar. But it progressed rapidly. As a 16th century town, it had a large wharf and the strongest fort outside of Manila. There were bastions of stones protecting it. It had good roads that facilitated communications and the town already had possessed a telegraph system.

Talim Island is a typical fishing community, a beautiful place to visit mainly because of its people. They were all very warm and accommodating, the fiberglass boats are the only means of getting to the Island that is in the middle of Laguna de Bay. The highest point of Talim Island is the Mount Tagapo or Susong Dalaga. "Susong Dalaga" because the mountain was shape of a woman's breast. On top of Susong Dalaga viewed the entire Laguna de Bay, Mt.Banahaw, Mt.Maculot, the entire Tagaytay Ridge, the SLEX, the Makati and Ortigas skylines, the Antipolo Mountains, Manila Bay, and all towns and provinces around Laguna area including Metro Manila.

Talim Island is the Largest Island in Laguna Lake consist of 17 barangays and extends 16 kilometers into Laguna de Bay. The barangay are kasile, bongbong, kaypita, kinagatan, kinaboogan, bangad, buhangin, janosa, kaytome, gulod, sapang, malakaban, ginoong sanay, pinagdilawan, mainit na sapa, tabon and habagatan-rayap.

Couple that with Marv Tarplin's peerless, aching melody and you've got the ultimate Motown heartbreaker.

10 Bonnie Raitt: "I Can't Make You Love Me," from The Luck Of The Draw (Capitol, 1991) "I'll feel the power, but you won't..." It's all very "tasty" and L.A.-musoid, this smokey ballad of resignation to loss, but it also rings hauntingly true as an articulation of honesty in the midst of misery--which makes it as much a song of healing as anything else.

9 Lorraine Ellison: "Stay With Me," single (Warner Brothers, 1966) "No, no! I can't believe!! You're leaving me!!!" The epic Bert Berns-Jerry Ragovoy ballad style taken to the outer limit, thanks in part to a borrowed Frank Sinatra orchestra. 5 The Righteous Brothers: "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," single (Philles, 1964) "You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips": it's got to be the second greatest opening line of any breakup song ever. (The greatest is surely from Raspberries’ ballad "Starting Over": "I used to be so f***ing optimistic til you said goodbye".) In theory it shouldn’t have worked, combining what was then almost a comedy act with Phil Spector, a man renowned for producing girl groups. Yet somehow it all came together in one of the most remarkable vocal performances of all time, with Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield madly swapping pleas like James Brown’s Siamese twins. Forget Linda Ronstadt's limp cover: the sisters' original from their startling debut album simply wees all over it. Imagine Les Voix des Bulgares transplanted to Acadia , with Kate and Anna's eerie, pellucid voices blending in a meditation on love and loss that's all about a kind of mystical bewilderment. Almost supernaturally moving.

3 Frank Sinatra: "I'm A Fool To Want You," from Where Are You? (Capitol, 1957) "But then would come the time that I would neeeeeed you..." A second stab at one of the very few songs Sinatra had a hand in writing--a song born of his debilitating pain over Ava Gardner--"I'm A Fool" is the desperate sound of a Man Who Loves Too Much, who keeps going back, masochistically, to the woman who's destroyed him. One of Frank's all-time peaks.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is the 2008 sequel to the 2005 film, Madagascar. It was produced by DreamWorks Animation and was released last November 7, 2008. The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures.

The movie starts in the past as Zuba (the alpha Lion of the Africa wildlife reserve), teaching his son Alakay (Alex) to fight. Then Makunga (the other Lion that is trying to snatch the title of Zuba) came and chanllenges Zuba. As the two Lions fight Alex was drawn out of the fence of the reserve and was catched by the Hunters. Zuba found out and tried to rescue Alex. But unfortunately, the crate where Alex was trapped fall on the cliff into a river which carries it to the sea. His crate eventually drifts to New York City where he is put on display in the Central Park Zoo. The movie cuts to the present, picking up where Madagascar left off. Alex, (lLiom) Marty,(Zebra) Melman (Giraff), and Gloria (Hipo) are boarding an airplane that will be catapulted with a gigantic slingshot. King Julian and Maurice go with them. Midway through the trip, the penguins discover they are out of fuel, but manage a gentle crash landing in an African wildlife reserve. They all meet their species, while the penguins stay at the crash site and repair the plane....

Alex reunites with his dad Zuba, and mom Florrie. Zuba's rival Makunga questions Alex and told that Alex should passed the right-of-passage trial for a for membership in the pride. But Makungas intention is to use Alex so he can steal the throne for himself. Makunga tricked Alex into choosing an exceedingly large and muscular lion as an opponent and he mistakenly thought that the test is a dance-off and was easily been defeated. Zuba, despite his disappointment, refuses to banish Alex from the pride and throw the throne. Makunga assumes the throne and ihimself banished Zuba and Alex along with Florrie. While Marty joins a herd of zebras, and discovers that each of the zebras is exactly like him, which makes him question how unique he is. Gloria meets Moto Moto as a potential mate. Melman becomes the giraffe herd's new witch doctor and helps animals with diseases and wounds. His new friends convince him he has "Witch Doctor's Disease" and has only two more days to live. As Alex and Melman talk over their problems with a zebra they think is Marty. Marty arrives and was offended to Alex that he cannot tell him from one of his "clones". Melman, was so sad and he burried himselp in hole with his head only on the top. He meets Julian and talk him that he should make the best of his last hours by facing and telling Gloria what he feels since he has nothing to loose. Melman found Gloria and Moto Moto on a secluded pool as Gloria tries to warm up to Moto Moto, facing Moto Moto and telling him to take care of Gloria for all the great qualities he himself sees in her, which moves Gloria.

As another conflicts arrives as the water waterhole dries up, all the animals panic. The animals asking Makunga what to do since he is now the King, and he replies that this should be settle in a fight. The other animals refuses since others are small and dont stand a chance versus the Lions. Alex came and volunteered to fix things up. As Alex and Marty trails the river, they found out that the New York vacationers build a Dam to support themselves off the reserve after getting lost in the jungle, led by Nana the Old Lady. Alex was caught by the humans, but Zuba rushes in in the nick of time. Alex intimidates the humans by performing as he had done in the zoo, and the humans recognize him as the same Alex the Lion from the zoo. Zuba realizes the importance of Alex's gift and joins in with him. Julian proposes the animals make a sacrifice to the volcano Gods to bring the water back, and Melman volunteers. Right before he jumps into the volcano, Gloria receives the news about Alex stops Melman from jumping the Volcano. They head off the reserve using the repaired airplane by the Penguins and the chimpz to rescue Alex and his dad Zuba. Nana was trying to defend the dam, but the penguins destroy it, and the water is brought back to the waterhole. Simultaneously, Julian and Maurice are horrified to find that Mort had followed them all the way to Africa, and they inadvertently sacrifice the pursuing shark (who had begun pursuing Mort earlier when Mort washed up on the shore) into the volcano instead, leading them to believe that they had brought the water back themselves.

Zuba recovered the throne and was given to Alex as an apology. The previous witch doctor returned and was just only lost and not dead, So the Giraffes and Melman was releaved that he will not die. The four friends decide to stay in Africa with Alex's family, as do Julian and Maurice, while the penguins take off in the plane for Skipper's honeymoon Skipper married a bobblehead doll found on the plane). The lions and their friends dance off into the sunset. The END...

Lessons Learned:
The lesson I have learned from the story was about our unique talents and the proper use of it. Another is friendship and Love.

Tinker Bell (2008) is a computer animated film based on the Disney Fairies franchise being produced by DisneyToon Studios. It revolves around Tinker Bell, a fairy character in Peter Pan. But this time the story is about Tinker Bell alone. I think it was released in the US on the last week of October and I don't know if it will be released here in the Philippines. However I can assure you this is one animated movie to watch.

The movie starts when Tinker Bell was born, selected her natural talent as a Thinker. A thinker is one of the group of fairies that creates and fix things. Unlike other fairies a thinker fairy does not have the ability to manipulate nature but they have a high level of way of thinking and creativity. She was born at a time when all fairies prepare for the end of winter and the coming of spring. Since Tinker Bell was a newly born fairy she is not aware that thinker fairies do not go to the main land. This is when the conflict starts as Tinker Bell becomes so curios of the main land as the other fairies are talking about it. She starts to think ask here other fairy friends to teach there abilities to her but instead of learning them she had caused a disaster and all the preparation for spring was lost. But as Tinker Bell accepts his true potential she think of ways on how to make months of preparation and hard work can be done in a short period of time. By using this thinking ability she had come with plan and created tools on how to make it easier and faster. And finally Tinker Bell Saved the day.

Lesson Learned:
The main lesson I have learned from this movie is simple, we should not underestimate ourselves and we should accept what we are capable of and that every each one of us has its own special ability and each one of us is created special. By accepting it and enhance our potential, with the help of others that surrounds us specially our friends and family we can do better things.

Sexual attraction and chemistry are very much said about love.Somehow it's true for everyone that they make love more exciting and spicy.But in the long run,it's not enough to keep the fire
burning, it fades.
Physical attraction is also one,it does matters for young couples of time.But much later as they grow older,deeper understanding about the feeling exists and could help them be as one as years go on.
Based on research, married couples mostly share the truest kind of love.They submit themselves to one another.They share intimacy,living,understanding,loving and learning from
each other.But love is not only for husbands and wives for to love and to be loved even in simplest way made for everyone.When someone is truly in love and already sure of what he feels,it is a very good experience that happen to him.Though sometimes love causes sorrows and pains, still,it is the greatest feeling one has for when a person falls in love,he experiences magic it self.

Be respectful to each other.Respect is the most important point to develop trust in a relationship.One should respect each other's opinion and plans to maintain equal level of thoughts.
Be a giver.It is not proper to always ask for something,What is important is what you give than what you get.Give your partner all that is in you physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Be selfless.Think of what your partner likes more than what you do. Ask for each other's plans and opinions before doing something.
Make him/her a part of yourself.If you consider your partner as the most important part of your life that you cannot breathe without him/her then you won't think things that could harm him/her.View and protect him/her same way you do for yourself.Care for him/her as the most precious part of your life that money cannot buy.
Have time foe each other.Communicate and make it a point to talk each other at least once a day.Find time to feel each other's presence and try to share with each other the experiences of the day.
Be open.Shame is natural but it can be overcome when one is courageous enough to open up things even to the most bit of it.Tell your insights,plans and thoughts to develop with your partner the spirit of closeness.Remember that everyone is incomplete so take time to fill each other's deficiencies to establish wholeness of self.
Be loyal.Plenty of temptations are lurking almost lurking almost everywhere.But being true can overcome even the most monstrous lure.For the nature of a person is good and everyone is trying to be pure.
Cultivate a sense of humor.Laughter is the best medicine as everyone knows.Share a common set of jokes that can release tension and intensity of drama that make togetherness dry,dull and not satisfying.
Reassure your love everyday.Simple words wipe out insecurities.But still actions speaks louder than words.So, try to do something that expresses your emotions.Chocolates,flowers and sweet nothings may help but the most important thing that matters is your presence whenever your partner needs you.
Seek spiritual guidance.Prayer is the most powerful thing in the world.Actions without the help of God is nothing.So,try attend a mass every Sunday and pray together for a stronger relationships.

I have never met a man who didn’t want to be loved. But I have seldom met a man who didn’t fear marriage. Something about the closure seems constricting, not enabling. Marriage seems easier to understand for what it cuts out of our lives than for what it makes possible within our lives.

When I was younger this fear immobilized me. I did not want to make a mistake. I saw my friends get married for reasons of social acceptability, or sexual fever, or just because they thought it was the logical thing to do. Then I watched, as they and their partners became embittered and petty in their dealings with each other. I looked at older couples and saw, at best, mutual toleration of each other. I imagined a lifetime of loveless nights and bickering
and could not imagine subjecting myself or someone else to such a fate.

And yet, on rare occasions, I would see old couples who somehow seemed to glow in each other’s presence. They seemed really in love, not just dependent upon each other and tolerant of each other’s foibles. It was an astounding sight, and it seemed impossible. How, I asked myself, can they have survived so many years of sameness, so much irritation at the others habits? What keeps love alive in them, when most of us seem unable to even stay together, much less love
each other?

The central secret seems to be in choosing well. There is something to the claim of fundamental compatibility. Good people can create a bad relationship, even though they both dearly want the relationship to succeed. It is important to find someone with whom you can create a good relationship from the outset. Unfortunately, it is hard to see clearly in the early stages. Sexual hunger draws you to each other and colors the way you see yourselves together. It blinds you to the thousands of little things by which relationships eventually survive or fail. You need to find a way to see beyond this initial overwhelming sexual fascination. Some people choose to involve themselves sexually and ride out the most heated period of sexual attraction in order to see what is on the other side.

This can work, but it can also leave a trail of wounded hearts. Others deny the sexual side altogether in an attempt to get to know each other apart from their sexuality. But they cannot see clearly, because the presence of unfulfilled sexual desire looms so large that it keeps them from having any normal perception of what life would be like together.

The truly lucky people are the ones who manage to become long-time friends before they realize they are attracted to each other. They get to know each other’s laughs, passions, sadness, and fears. They see each other at their worst and at their best. They share time together before they
get swept up into the entangling intimacy of their sexuality. This is the ideal, but not often possible. If you fall under the spell of your sexual attraction immediately, you need to look beyond it for other keys to compatibility. One of these is laughter. Laughter tells you how
much you will enjoy each others company over the long term.

If your laughter together is good and healthy, and not at the expense of others, then you have a healthy relationship to the world. Laughter is the child of surprise. If you can make each other laugh, you can always surprise each other. And if you can always surprise each other, you can always keep the world around you new.

Beware of a relationship in which there is no laughter. Even the most intimate relationships based only on seriousness have a tendency to turn sour. Over time, sharing a common serious viewpoint on the world tends to turn you against those who do not share the same viewpoint, and your relationship can become based on being critical together.

After laughter, look for a partner who deals with the world in a way you respect. When two people first get together, they tend to see their relationship as existing only in the space between the two of them. They find each other endlessly fascinating, and the overwhelming power of the
emotions they are sharing obscures the outside world. As the relationship ages and grows, the outside world becomes important again. If your partner treats people or circumstances in a way you can’t accept, you will inevitably come to grief. Look at the way she cares for others and deals with the daily affairs of life. If that makes you love her more, your love will grow. If it does not, be careful. If you do not respect the way you each deal with the world around you, eventually the two of you will not respect each other.

Look also at how your partner confronts the mysteries of life. We live on the cusp of poetry and practicality, and the real life of the heart resides in the poetic. If one of you is deeply affected by the mystery of the unseen in life and relationships, while the other is drawn only to the literal and the practical, you must take care that the distance does not become an unbridgeable gap that leaves you each feeling isolated and misunderstood.

There are many other keys, but you must find them by yourself. We all have unchangeable parts of our hearts that we will not betray and private commitments to a vision of life that we will not deny.

If you fall in love with someone who cannot nourish those inviolable parts of you, or if you cannot nourish them in her, you will find yourselves growing further apart until you live in separate worlds where you share the business of life, but never touch each other where the heart lives
and dreams. From there it is only a small leap to the cataloging of petty hurts and daily failures that leaves so many couples bitter and unsatisfied with their mates.

So choose carefully and well. If you do, you will have chosen a partner with whom you can grow, and then the real miracle of marriage can take place in your hearts. I pick my words carefully when I speak of a miracle. But I think it is not too strong a word. There is a miracle in marriage. It is called transformation.

Transformation is one of the most common events of nature. The seed becomes the flower. The cocoon becomes the butterfly. Winter becomes spring and love becomes a child. We never question these, because we see them around us every day. To us they are not miracles, though if we did not know them they would be impossible to believe.

Marriage is a transformation we choose to make. Our love is planted like a seed, and in time it begins to flower. We cannot know the flower that will blossom, but we can be sure that a bloom will come.

If you have chosen carefully and wisely, the bloom will be good. If you have chosen poorly or for the wrong reason, the bloom will be flawed. We are quite willing to accept the reality of negative transformation in a marriage. It was negative transformation that always had me terrified of
the bitter marriages that I feared when I was younger. It never occurred to me to question the dark miracle that transformed love into harshness and bitterness. Yet I was unable to accept the possibility that the first heat of love could be transformed into something positive that was actually deeper and more meaningful than the heat of fresh passion. All I could believe in was the power of this passion and the fear that when it cooled I would be left with something lesser
and bitter.

But there is positive transformation as well. Like negative transformation, it results from a slow accretion of little things. But instead of death by a thousand blows, it is growth by a thousand touches of love. Two histories intermingle. Two separate beings, two separate presence, two separate consciousness come together and share a view of life that passes before them. They remain separate, but they also become one. There is an expansion of awareness, not a closure and a constriction, as I had once feared. This is not to say that there is not tension and there are not traps. Tension and traps are part of every choice of life, from celibate to monogamous to having multiple lovers. Each choice contains within it the lingering doubt that the road not taken
somehow more fruitful and exciting, and each becomes dulled to the richness that it alone contains.

But only marriage allows life to deepen and expand and be leavened by the knowledge that two have chosen, against all odds, to become one. Those who live together without marriage can know the pleasure of shared company, but there is a specific gravity in the marriage commitment that deepens that experience into something richer and more complex.

So do not fear marriage, just as you should not rush into it for the wrong reasons. It is an act of faith and it contains within it the power of transformation. If you believe in your heart that you have found someone with whom you are able to grow, if you have sufficient faith that you can resist the endless attraction of the road not taken and the partner not chosen, if you have the strength of heart to embrace the cycles and seasons that your love will experience, then you may be ready to seek the miracle that marriage offers. If not, then wait. The easy grace of a marriage well made is worth your patience. When the time comes, a thousand flowers will bloom… endlessly.
